What happens at U.Pitch doesn’t always stay at U.Pitch.
Seven months after pitching his student startup in the 2015 U.Pitch Finals, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student Sam Lukach recently announced that his company has partnered with ContextMedia:Health to put his product in over 25,000 locations nationwide.
ContextMedia, founded in 2011 and based out of Chicago, is the world’s largest digital health information company. Lukach was introduced to the company when its president, Shradha Agarwal, served as a judge for his final round pitch at the 2015 Future Founders U.Pitch Competition and Showcase last December, which sparked interest and opened the door for conversations after the event.
“Outcomes like these are one of the main goals of U.Pitch,” said Katie Sowa, Senior Director of the Future Founders Startup program. “Students often go into U.Pitch looking for prize money, but they come out with new connections and networks that are far more valuable.”
Lukach’s pitch for HUK TV Mounts, space saving TV mounts designed with portability and simplicity in mind, impressed the judges enough last December that he was awarded third place in the competition, along with a cash prize of $2,000. The exposure and connections made during the evening, however, have now proven to be worth far more.
The Future Founders U.Pitch Competition and Showcase, an initiative of Future Founders Startup, brings together the best students from a cross-section of universities in the ultimate elevator pitch competition. Students have 90 seconds to pitch their business or idea to win part of $10,000, and then get the opportunity to showcase in front of hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders and other students from the entrepreneurial community.
The 3rd Annual U.Pitch Competition and Showcase will take place on November 10th, 2016, at 1871 in Chicago. Tickets to attend the competition can be purchased here, and any college or university student interested in pitching their idea or business may apply before the October 20th deadline at futurefounders.com/startup/upitch.
