The Future Founders Foundation has been awarded an Empowerment Grant from the Motorola Mobility Foundation to fund and support the Future Founders & Connect to the Future programs. The grant recognizes the important work and mission of the Future Founders Foundation, and will allow the organization to continue to strengthen the local communities of Chicago.
Founded in 2011, the Future Founders Foundation expands entrepreneurship and career exploration programs for low income students in Chicago. The Foundation inspires teenagers to explore new careers and connects them with successful mentors from various professions. The Future Founders Foundation will use the funds to expose 500-600 students in Chicago’s low income areas to entrepreneurship and tech careers through business plan creation, mentoring and guest speakers. Approximately 100-150 students will participate in mobile app development bootcamps organized through Motorola Mobility.
“We are excited and honored to win an Empowerment Grant from the Motorola Mobility Foundation,” said Scott Issen, President & CEO, Future Founders Foundation. “These funds will enable our organization to further engage the people of Chicago with technology in an effort to enhance their lives.”
Empowerment Grants support U.S.-based nonprofit organizations in the development of mobile applications to enrich the communities they serve. This year, 42 non-profits received Empowerment Grants to engage in a wide variety of outreach activities, ranging from technology-literacy education and app boot camps to collecting data for research projects to peer mentoring for students through the use of technology.
“The Empowerment Grants program allows organizations to infuse technology into their communities,” said Eileen Sweeney, Director of the Motorola Mobility Foundation. “On behalf of Motorola Mobility, I’d like to sincerely congratulate this year’s exceptional and inspiring group of grantees.”
