The Future Founders Foundation, a non-profit organization that expands entrepreneurship and career exploration programs for low income students in Chicago, today announced it has received a grant as part of the Innovation Generation grant program from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc. Through the grant, the Future Founders Foundation will expose 500-600 African American and Hispanic students in Chicago’s low income areas to entrepreneurship and tech careers through business plan creation, mentoring and guest speakers.
Since 2007, the Innovation Generation grant program has provided $30 million in support of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs, supporting more than 300 school, museum and non-profit programs across the United States. The Innovation Generation program awards funds to organizations such as the Future Founders Foundation that foster and support STEM initiatives for teachers and U.S. preschool through university students – especially girls and underrepresented minorities.
“We are thrilled to be involved with the initiative that has provided STEM programs to 87 organizations across the country,” said Scott Issen, President & CEO, Future Founders Foundation. “With these funds, we will be able to further engage young adults in Chicago with entrepreneurial opportunities that leverage STEM education in an effort to enhance their lives.”
“Each year, I am truly amazed by the ground-breaking work our grant recipients like the Future Founders Foundation accomplish through their Innovation Generation grants,” said Matt Blakely, Director, Motorola Solutions Foundation. “These grantees are playing an active role in developing the future of STEM education for our country. As a company dedicated to helping people be their best in the moments that matter, Motorola Solutions could not be more honored to support programs such as the Future Founders Foundation.”
Innovation Generation is a part of Motorola Solutions’ larger commitment to engaging youth in STEM education. Beyond funding, the Future Founders Foundation will receive ongoing support from Motorola Solutions employee volunteers, who will act as mentors, tutors and experts in STEM careers.
